(HealthDay News) -- Potassium is an essential dietary mineral, offering benefit to your heart, muscles, kidneys and nervous system.



Good sources of potassium include: potatoes, bananas, nuts, citrus fruits and avocados.



The University of Maryland Medical Center says potential benefits of potassium include:

  • Improved bone health.

  • Lower blood pressure.
